Best choice in Dem primary
Democratic voters in House District 72 have at least three excellent choices Tuesday to replace term-limited state Rep. Darrell Gilbert.
Monroe Nichols, a member of Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor’s staff, is an eloquent young leader who understands the district’s problems and wants to do something about them.
Seneca Scott, a recent transplant to the district who brings valuable experience from work at Oklahoma City’s City Hall, shares many of those same characteristics.
But the Tulsa World recommends Christie Breedlove, a committed leader who has spent years working behind the scenes for the people of District 72, which stretches from the University of Tulsa to Turley and includes many of Tulsa County’s most economically challenged areas.
Breedlove gets the edge because of commitment and experience, especially experience within the boundaries of District 72.
Nichols and Scott moved to the district in recent years. Although they have proven quick studies of what needs to be done, that isn’t a substitute for the sense of place that comes from years on the ground.
When Breedlove goes to the doorsteps of District 72 voters to ask for their votes, it is not the first time they have met and talked to her. She has worked the area on behalf of Democratic office-seekers for years and has heard voters talk about its need for better schools, better police protection and better economic opportunities.
She promises to be more than just a representative in Oklahoma City, but a forceful local advocate at all levels of government.
If there is no runoff — an unlikely proposition in a hard-contested five-person race — the winner of Tuesday’s primary is essentially sent to the House. One Republican filed for the seat but withdrew. Lawrence Kirkpatrick, a perennially unsuccessful candidate, will appear on the November general election ballot as an independent, but he stands no chance of winning.
Breedlove is the best choice for the district. She is a brave leader who will be a forceful, aggressive advocate for its people. She will make a fine legislator.

Dear Neighbor,
I am endorsing my friend, Christie Breedlove, candidate for State House District 72. I am asking you to vote for her on Tuesday, July 29th.
This letter is printed on pink paper to remind you that I am a breast cancer survivor and am “tickled pink” to be able to ask your support for Christie. Just days after this election, I will celebrate being cancer-free for two years! Quality health care must be affordable AND available to residents of our north Tulsa community.
The importance of affordable and available health care for you and me is clear. The OU Specialty Clinic opening in north Tulsa will be a welcome step towards meeting the complete health care needs of north Tulsa. However, we must continue to make health care available to our north Tulsa community. Christie will work to continue to improve health care facilities in north Tulsa and make quality health care available to us. She will also make it a legislative priority to make health care more affordable to north Tulsa residents.
I have known Christie since she was age ten. I worked with her mother, Donna, at the Department of Human Services at that time. Christie was born and raised in this district and went to our public schools here in the community. Christie lives here, works here and is involved in our community.
You may have read a recent study that determined that people who live in the 74126 zip code area live twelve years less than those who live in midtown Tulsa. The lack of available health care, lack of affordable services and lack of preventative care is killing us, literally! We want those 12 years back!!
Christie turned age forty this year and had her first mammogram. One in eight women will get breast cancer in her lifetime. The American Cancer Society estimates that about 2,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer are diagnosed in men each year and approximately 450 men die from breast cancer annually. Christie believes that we all deserve to have affordable preventative care.
Someone who has not grown up in this district will never fully understand why a medical facility in another area of town is NOT readily available to north Tulsans. With transportation issues facing our community, we need affordable quality health care facilities available IN our community.
As I celebrate being cancer-free this August, I hope I am also celebrating Christie’s victory in this election. Your vote can make that hope a reality.
Christie refuses to allow us to be the “forgotten quadrant of Tulsa.” Together, let’s send her to the State House of Representatives to be our TRUE voice.
Sincerely,
State Senator Judy Eason McIntyre

Because we need someone who knows what we need!
Dear Fellow Northsider,
We want to make sure that you know about our friend, Christie Breedlove, a candidate for State House District 72. We are asking you to vote for her on Tuesday, July 29th.
Christie is a northsider and has been all of her life. Christie grew up here, went to school here, lives here, works here, and is actively involved in our community. Christie is one of us. We talk together, not to one another. When we take a stand on something important in our community Christie doesn’t sit on the sidelines, waiting to see how things turn out. Christie has been there to stand WITH us. That is our vision for our community. We need a TEAM to get things done out here.
When we are one, acting alone, we are not as effective. We are stronger united together. This entire community is joined at the hip and it must be addressed that way. It HAS to be a coalition of all of us, not just one.
In order to have a winning team for our community there has to be communication between state and local officials. With Christie’s representation, we can make that happen. We will have a team that works together in our community preparing a comprehensive plan for restoring not only much needed services, but economic development that will attract and sustain a middle class and improve our overall quality of life. Electing Christie to the State House from District 72 will have a direct impact on our daily lives!
There are several carpetbaggers running against Christie. Someone who has not grown up in this district will never fully understand what it means to always be “last on the list” when it comes to street repairs, housing improvements, transportation, economic development and quality jobs. We need “one of our own” to be our voice, and Christie will be the voice that we need and trust.
Christie has proven her commitment to our community and she refuses to allow us to be the “forgotten quadrant of Tulsa.” Together, let’s send Christie Breedlove to the State House from District 72 to be our TRUE voice.
Sincerely,
Roscoe Turner & Jack Henderson
